A FREE cycling scheme began at Cosmeston last weekend, and aimed to get more Vale girls ‘on the move’.

Making up part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Girls on the Move scheme, the cycling session saw a number of young Vale girls bring their helmets and bikes along for the launch of the beginners’ course.

The course – taking place every Saturday in April between 10am and noon – is held in partnership with Welsh Cycling and Breeze Rides, and provides women and girls aged 10 and up with the opportunity to hone their riding skills in an enclosed area, before going on a ride around Cosmeston Park itself.

The sessions are said to be ideal for anyone wishing to improve their confidence on their bike, with mums and daughters encouraged to attend.

Anyone wanting to book a space at a session can ring the council’s sport and play development team on 01446 704808, or email Rachel Shepherd at rshepherd@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk

The Girls on the Move scheme was set-up in order to encourage more girls to participate in sport more frequently, and has seen the council host glowminton, running and dancing sessions in the past.
