A SUPERB display by both rinks against Llantwit Major put Penarth Windsor through to the final of the Alan Martin Cup. The scores were Matthews, Gunter Holmes and Woodcock 22-9, Flitney, Hudson, Close and McLeod 17-11.

The only team success for the men came in the PG1 game against Pentyrch where they claimed all 14 points to consolidate their second position in the table. Lewis, Ellard, Rees and Close 22-18. Matthews, Burton, Gunter and Holmes 25-13. Flitney, Rogers, Hudson and McLeod 28-10. Evans, Palfrey, Hope and Woodcock 29-13.

It was a different story for the PG2 team who made the long trip to Dowlais and were soundly beaten by a strong Guest Memorial team. There was however one rink success for Derek Davies with Cuccinello, Woodcock and the evergreen Meredith.

The Alliance team travelled to Cardiff Athletic and managed to win on three rinks but a heavy defeat on the fourth saw them defeated overall by four shots. Owen, Adams, White and Daniel 14-11. Collier, Brenton, Morris and Hales 16-12. Peregrine, Armstrong, Williams and Howells 19-9. Ellis, Mathias, Johnson and Morgan 7-28.

The Munro Cup team travelled to Barry Central to play in torrential rain on the heaviest of greens. Many of the team found the conditions too difficult whereas the home team seemed not to have the same problems. However, there were good rink wins for Hope with Evans, Palfrey and Evans and for Gunter with Matthews, Rogers and Burton.

Thursday saw the arrival of Murray’s Marauders at the Windsor. This was a team of occasional bowlers put together to honour the inimitable David Murray, a part time bowler and full time raconteur whose illness has meant he can no longer live in the area. The Marauders, dressed in battle headgear and led by event organiser, Para Dennis Morgan took to the green and surprised many of the Windsor team bowlers with their ability. In their defence, the Windsor team never quite got over the fear struck by the Marauders’ pre-match haka. With David Murray in good form, the post-match soiree was one of the best ever experienced at the club and was a fitting tribute to our great friend,

Now to the Ladies and star billing goes to the Double Rink team who produced their best form of the season to record a win against Pontyclun in their final game. Led by Club Captain Joy Stockton, they triumphed by 6 shots. P. Farrell, C. Dyer, G. Latham, D. Ellard 13-16. B. Ellis, J. Davies, M. Huntley, J. Stockton 19-10.

There was a draw for the Evening League team away at Roath Park. C. Fitzgerald, B. Dunlop, V.Flitney, M. Owen 16-14. C. Gunter, M. Scarrett, D. Roper, D. Thomas 15-17. There was however a disappointing defeat for the afternoon league team at home to Millwood following previous victory on all three rinks in the away fixture.

Sadly, all that could be salvaged on this occasion was a draw for S. Howells, S. Paterson, V. Flitney and M. Owen.
