SULLY Bowling Club (the village club) this week experienced the testing times of being a small club.

On a dull overcast Wednesday night we welcomed Penarth Rectory Road to our green in the Munro Cup.

After 10 ends it was 2 rinks up but 10 shots down so improvement was needed.

But the game went to an exciting end.

Sully’s captain Hugh Levick Jones last rink on the green and holding a game lie was unable to stop Penarth’s D Clement draw to save the game so from 3 up to 1 down giving Penarth a 4 shot win.

Unlucky but a great bowls game.

R Fitzjohn, B Dascombe, T Murphy, H Levick Jones 15-15, D Curtin, D Davies, A Smith, J Best 16-10, B Curtis, J Hubbard, H Thomas, D Edwardes 12-15, A Kelly, P Neale, A Rees, M Hardy 12-19.

On Saturday it was a totally different story, as mentioned last week.

The club knew they were up against former national champions and last year’s semi finalists but this was just different class and in every rink there where county or international bowlers and they could not live with them with the weakened side they have at the moment.

Not to dwell on the scores but it was loss on all rinks by 87 shots.

This week the club travelled to Millwood on Wednesday and are at home to Porthcawl on Saturday.

The club hope the weather will hold and the bowling gods shine on some of our novice bowlers.
