PENARTH were narrowly beaten on Saturday as they fell to a two wicket defeat at home to Ynystawe.

The bears chose to bat first and were bowled out for 183 off the last ball of their 50 overs with Richard Skone top scoring with 45.

Ynystawe just about reached their target with three balls to spare having lost eight wickets.

Ryan Sylvester was the pick of the Penarth bowlers with 3-24 as Morgan Humphreys (2-47) and Richard Skone (2-16) also chipped in.

The seconds had better luck on Sunday as they beat Bridgend Town at home by three wickets.

The Bears opted to field first and bowled out the visitors for 187 in the 46th over.

Dafydd Manley starred with 4-44 and Tom Pascoe with 3-27 and there were also wickets for Andy Graveson (2-20).

Penarth reaches the target after 38 overs for the loss of seven wickets.

Opener James Erasmus hit 49 and wicket keeper and captain Matthew Slugg hit an unbeaten 40 to see Penarth home.

Back to Saturday and the thirds were victorious as they beat Mountain Ash by 21 runs at home.

The Bears chose to bat first and reached an impressive 218-5 from 40 overs with Neil Stephens finishing unbeaten on 48 and a not out 46 from Lewis Ingram.

Mountain Ash reached 197-9 from their 40 overs with Neil Stephens’ 3-35 leading the way as well as 2-31 from Mark Frost wiry Rhys McGowan, Keith James and Zac Essenhigh all picking up a wicket each.

But the fourths fell to defeat away at Mountain Ash by eight wickets.

This coming Saturday, the firsts host Tara Steel whilst the seconds are away to Tata Steel.

The thirds host Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer and the fourths are away to Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer.
