IT started so well for Sully Bowls Club. From the highs to the lows and the lower still on Sunday, that was the week for the Villagers.

On Wednesday evening Cadoxton received a very warm welcome to Sully in every way possible.

Good weather, good bowls and good food after in the constitutional club. On the green four good rinks did battle with the high light being a 4 on the last end for the Hugh Levick Jones rink to win by 1 and give a maximum points win 87-57.

It was also strange due to last minute drop outs to see 3 skips all in one rink struggle for a long time until quality shone through in the end.

B Curtis, F Phillips, D Curtis and D Edwards 24-14, having been 12-13 down on 12 ends.

Thanks to Fred for dashing back from Tenby to make up the side. E Pryer, R Fitzjohn, P Neale, D Hotchkiss 21-13, A Kelly, B Dascombe, H Thomas, H Levick Jones 16-15.

D Davies, K Mahoney, A Rees, T Murphy 26-15.

On Saturday the only good news was that the players didn’t get wet on what was a very heavy green after the overnight rain.

Millwood started strongly with home advantage and it took the Villagers too long to get going.

Although it was 2 rinks each the home side held a comfortable 11 shot advantage 85-74. B Curtis, A Rees, T Murphy, D Edwards 22-15, G John, R Fitzjohn, A Thomas, D Curtis 26-12, E Pryer, J Hubbard, D Hotchkiss, F Phillips 12-34, A Smith, H Levick Jones, M Hardy, B Griffiths 14-24.

On Sunday what can you say other than it rained and it rained? The semi-final of the Alan Martin was started but a third of the way in the green was far too wet and flooded in places so it was decided to retire.

This Saturday the Villagers entertain Llantwit Major as we get towards the business end of the league fixtures currently sitting in third spot.
