ANOTHER solid performance by Penarth Bowling Club at Sully Sports saw the Munro Cup side collect 10 points to maintain their run of good results.

Bob Horne skipped the most successful rink running away with a 25-9 margin.

Derek Musk, Ron Birkby and Mike Conway all weighed in with 18 ends of accomplished bowls.

They held a tight grip on the game throughout, scoring on 12 of the 18 ends.

Phil Crocker's rink of Colin Hicks, Don Shirley and Berwyn Lansley also secured 2 points by winning 20-16 in a very tight finish.

Behind on the 16th end, they managed to pick up 6 shots on the last 2 ends to snatch the lead and win. Clive Fry, Paul Church, Mike England and Phil Davies were extremely unlucky to lose by 1 shot (17-18).

Not so lucky was the Dave Dalby, Guy Thomas ,Bob Willmot and Russel Daniel rink which struggled somewhat and eventually went down 13-22.

The overall result was a Penarth win by 75 shots to 65.

With the PG1 side resting on Saturday, PG2 opponents Dinas Powis were welcomed to Rectory in what turned out to be a most disappointing and uncomfortable afternoon's bowling.

Persistent rain restricted the game, when it was abandoned after 15 ends with Dinas taking 12 very soggy points.

A miserable afternoon for all concerned, with Dinas registering a 62-43 victory.

The 2 points gained for Penarth came via the rink of Guy Thomas, Berwyn Lansley, Dave Ingram and Russel Daniel who managed a win by 17-9.

The antics of the Ladies of Rectory was restricted to just one afternoon league fixture with the visit of Penylan.

The game really was a tight nail biting affair, going down to the very last end.

Despite two of the rinks picking up a total of 17 shots over the final 6 ends, Penylan managed to hold things together on the third rink to edge out a draw overall. Final score being 49-49.

Belinda Price, Joan Lewis, Barbara Brown and Loraine Palmer stormed to a convincing win by 14 shots (22-8).

The opposition only scoring on four ends. Wendy Grant, Kath Jenkins, Jill Gaskell and Chris Church pulled away late on to grab victory from impending defeat and winning 20-14.

Sue Croll, Tricia Brinkworth, June Williams and Norma Duggan suffered a bad day at the office being defeated by 7-27.

There is always tomorrow.
