Vale Midweek Cricket league - week 10 round up

BARRY Internationals warmed up for their table-topping clash with Llantwit Cavaliers with a crushing 170 run win over Creigiau.

Janveer with 90 and Saleh with an unbeaten 100 did the damage with the bat as Internationals piled up a season's best of 244 for 2. Masqood took 4 for 4 as Creigiau slipped to 74 all out in reply.

Saleh's ton set a new League record for the amount of centuries scored in a season, this being the fifth to date.

Creigiau also had the misfortune to play league leaders the Cavaliers the previous evening. But with a damp and lively track helping the bowlers, Creigiau will feel a little disappointed not to have won the game.

After restricting Cavaliers to 105 all out, Julian Griffiths top scoring with 37 and Glyn Thomas taking 3 for 7, Creigiau must have fancied their chances of a fine win.

But the Cavaliers attack is not only the most potent but also one of the meanest in the league and they performed heroics to keep the home team to 98 for 7. Andy Morgan top-scored with 23, Jon Cheal returned 3 for 9 to maintain the Cavaliers 2 point lead.

Elsewhere, West End recorded an 86 run win over Cavaliers Colts. Kit Wilson with 55 and Nathan Vann 30, helped West End to a good score of 145 for 6. The Colts could not cope with Tommy Miller's bowling and in a rare appearance the West End stalwart took 5 for 5 as the Colts slipped to 59 all out.

At Cardiff, Tynewydd slipped from a highly promising 74 for 1 to 86 all out. Scott Malpas top-scored with 47 and Roy Rogers helped with 25, but two avoidable run outs and a choice of poor shots doomed the Inn's cause. Ieuan Harry returned 3 for 4 and Gareth Watts 3 for 6 for Ccardiff.

Elian Jones, 40, led Cardiff to a 7 wicket win, but the Inn were unlucky not to have reduced the winning margin by more as several of the batsmen profited from some lucky escapes.

Penarth beat Barry Wanderers by 4 runs. Batting first, Penarth could thank G.Davies with 56 and Rob Morgan with 51 for their score of 166 for 3.

Wanderers chased hard but were denied at the death. Andy Fenton knocked a useful 46 not out to keep the visitors in contention while M.Anwar took a season's best of 4 for 27.

Barry Athletic ended a run of four defeats with a four-run win over Lisvane in an enthralling match at the Island. That defeat could prove costly for the former champions who now have much ground to make up if they are to retain their title. Significantly they still have to face Cavaliers and the Internationals in the run-in.

On a good track the bowlers did exceptionally well. Barry were restricted to 117 for 8, Andy Buckland scoring 32 and Alex Curry taking 3 for 24.

In reply, Lisvane lost wickets regularly and eventually fell short by 4 runs in a really good match in which the fairness of the umpires from both teams should be noted. Faraz top-scored with 25 and there was a brace of wickets apiece for Thomas, Twomey and White.

No results were reported between Pencoed and Cogan, and Fontygary versus Dinas Powys.
