Sun shines on Penarth runners in weekend of races

IN ALMOST perfect conditions Penarth and Dinas Runners took part in the Atlantic College 10k race on the weekend, March 16.

As the spring marathon season edges closer, with many club members taking part in the London, Liverpool, Boston and Manchester marathons, several runners had to juggle their long runs with the speedy race.

Both Clem Clement and Gary Brown showed remarkable recoveries as they completed 20 mile training runs on the Saturday followed by the 10k race on Sunday.

In the race, which was also a club championship fixture, Gary Brown showed little fatigue as he finished 6th overall and 2nd in his age category in 37.11.

Richard Jackson-Hookins, set to run his first marathon in a few weeks, wasn't far behind in 16th overall and 11th in his age category in 39.24.

Andrew Frayling was 36th overall and 12th in his age category in 41.14.

Clem Clement, who also incorporated the 5k Cardiff parkrun into his 20mile training run the day before, finished 39th overall and 5th in his age category in 41.20.

Andrew Palmer was 47th overall and 16th in his age category in 42.14.

Knill Baird-Murray was 51st overall and 7th in his age category in 42.51.

Chris Nellins was 56th overall and 6th in his age category in 43.23.

Louise Hunt was the first woman from Penarth to finish and was 65th overall and 2nd in her age category in 44.34.

Paul Mitchell was 75th overall and 20th in his age category in 45.53.

Lindsey Hunt achieved a PB and was 106th overall and 8th in her age category in 47.53.

Paul Furlong was 117th overall and 7 in his age category in 48.29.

Steve Hill was 122th overall and 14th in his age category in 48.46.

Claire Phillips was 132nd overall and 13th in age her category in 49.24.

Amanda Lynch was 140th overall and 3rd her age category in 49.55.

Josh Davies was 143rd overall and 37th in age category in 50.09.

Danielle Rayner was 159th and in 16th age category in 51.20.

Janice Clement was 190th overall and 1st in her age category in 54.06.

Lyn Evans was 198th overall and 24th in her age category in 54.30.

Andrea Goodfellow was 206th overall and 11th in her age category in 55.07.

Rhodri Evans was 246th overall and 46th in his age category in 58.42.

Michelle Hoey was 247th overall and 30th in her age category in 58.44.

Justine Cass was 252nd overall and 17th in her age category in 59.24.

On Sunday several Penarth runners also took part in the Gloucester 20 mile road race.

Debbie Evans had an absolute stormer as she achieved a personal best and 2nd in her age category in 2.29.52.

Ian Warburton, recovering from injury, finished in 2.35.20.

Helen Griffiths, fresh from last week’s Rhyadar 20 mile road race, finished in 2.52.41.

On Sunday, March 16, Lisa Cleary, Andrea Hurman and Yvonne Williams retained their Welsh Veteran 45’s title in the Welsh Road Relay Championships in Pontypridd on a tough course.
