PENARTH’S Brett Morse narrowly missed out on a medal in the discus final of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last week.

After qualifying from the heats he threw 60.48m in the final to achieve 5th place, with the gold medal taken by India’s Vikas Shive Gowda with 63.64m on Thursday evening, July 31.

Former Stanwell School pupil Brett said it was a “massive disappointment” to finish in 5th and vowed to come back stronger in the Olympics in two years time.

His throw of 60.48m was an improvement on the heats when he achieved 59.85m, but it was still below his personal best of 66.84m.

After missing out on a medal he thanked everyone for all their support during his two days in the competition.

“This season has been a struggle technically, but I feel blessed that I am in the best physical and mental shape I have ever been in and will continue to improve on this. Hopefully next season I can come back firing on all cylinders, beyond what I have already achieved and start to push towards my goal of becoming the best in the world.”

Morse has previously starred at the Olympics Games and a World Championships final in a promising career so far. He has recently battled back from a rare bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, and vowed to fulfil his potential of being a world leading discus thrower.

He said: “5th place in the Commonwealth Games is a massive disappointment for me but after the past six months it's taken a lot of mental strength to push on and be in the position I am in. I will continue to compete throughout the season and get myself ready for the next two year cycle towards the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.”
