Caldicot 3 Dinas Powys FC 0

COMING off a mini resurgence in recent matches the confidence amongst Dinas Powys FC players was high. This was soon dampened as a poor back pass from Connor Caton was pounced on within the opening four minutes, the home-side striker finishing off following Curtin’s brave attempt.

Instead of feeling sorry for themselves the visiting team really took the game to high flying Caldicot for the next 40 minutes. Ben Ahmun had a great chance to draw level with a fine header which went just wide.

Steve Provis the experienced Dinas lad then found himself in the box with what looked like a simple shot but the ball took a nasty bounce before he could connect.

The visitors really pressed on and were awarded a penalty following some good work from Swaffield on the left.

Joe Briscombe stepped up but struck it unconvincingly and the Caldicot keeper parried it wide.

Kieron James was having plenty of chinking runs and looked to create an opening to get his shots off but fired wide. Lewis Marsh standing over a free kick from 30 yards came very close as it rifled just wide of the left hand corner.

As the half wore on Caldicot looked threatening on the break but Caton and Bloxham were having an inspired time at the back dealing with everything thrown their way.

Just before the break Caton went on a surging run from defence and forced the home-side ‘keeper to pull off a great save.

Luke Swaffield again ghosted in the box and looked to lob the ‘keeper but Davidson was in exceptional form closing him down early.

At the break you couldn't tell that Dinas were so many places below the home-side with a very good display from this young squad.

The second half Dinas went for a more direct approach and Carlos Indjai had two great chances within five minutes, firing just over with a looping effort and forcing the ‘keeper into a fine save with his second chance.

Bringing on fresh legs and pushing bodies forward Dinas lost their shape a little and the home-side made their chances count with two very good finishes.

The Villagers should take a lot of pride from this performance, they are a young squad looking to play the right way and certainly are very capable of punching above their weight, the score-line certainly didn't reflect the performance.
