FORMER international footballers and Commonwealth athletes starred at a fundraising evening at the Oystercatcher pub.

The fundraising evening was held to help send underprivileged local kids to a football camp in Madrid.

Football legends Neville Southall and Norman Whiteside were at the Hungry Horse pub on Terra Nova Way last Friday as part of a sports dinner supporting PG10 Coaching. The pair were also joined by Commonwealth gold medallist Frankie Jones and Commonwealth silver medallist Nikara Jenkins.

Tickets were sold out for the evening, which included a three-course meal before the sporting legends shared stories about their careers and achievements and chatted with the guests. An auction was also held during the evening with prizes including a signed Liverpool shirt and a signed Welsh rugby union shirt.

In total £2,000 was raised for PG10 Coaching, which plans to take a group of children from the local area to a football camp at Real Madrid, where they will visit the famous Bernabéu stadium.

PG10 Coaching provides a wide range of football opportunities for children and young people and aims to develop their football and provide them with essential life skills and the opportunity to learn about different cultures in a fun sporting environment.

Andrew Daniels, manager of the Oystercatcher, said: “I would like to thank Neville, Norman, Frankie and Nikara for coming down to the Oystercatcher, everyone had a really enjoyable evening. I would also like to thank the customers who bought tickets to the event and bid generously in the auction, the amount of money we raised is brilliant.”

Similar events are being planned at the pub in the future. For more information call the Oystercatcher on 02920 709836 or visit the pub on Facebook.
