DINAS Powys faced West End with Dinas losing 2-1. The match ball was kindly sponsored by Vale Food Services.

Apart from a goal in the first and last minute of the match by the visitors this game was, on the whole, dominated by Dinas and they can consider themselves very unlucky not to have taken something from the game.

With the first attack of the game, Luc Blackmore got a cross in from the right to Delano Tortortella who headed on for Rob Shannon to slot the ball home from close range for the opener for the visitors.

It took Dinas a while to get their passing game going after this setback but they gradually began to dominate possession and they had a good chance to level things when a deep cross from Nicky Bruce was met at the far post by Carlos Indjai but his effort skewed across the six yard box and was cleared.

A free kick for West End was cleared by Indjai and Dinas began to look the better team as Bruce sent Indjai scampering down the left wing, he beat the full back and got a cross in but the visitors’ ‘keeper Harding got to the ball first to gather.

Ben Ah-Mun and Keiron James then linked up well to give the latter a shot at goal but his effort was off target.

They then attacked down the right, Atif Bashir finding Sam Johnson who spun and got a fine shot on target which Harding had to take at full stretch.

West End were having few attacking chances at this stage although they did have a free kick taken by Jon Eames but it was wide of James Curtin's left post and at the other end Ah-Mun took a free kick from 22 yards which curled just wide.

Dinas forced two corners with around five minutes of the half remaining but couldn't capitalise on either of them and Ah-Mun had another half chance when he took a long range shot from 40 yards which wasn't far off target.

James Alloway then sustained a head injury but was ok to continue and the half ended with the visitors still hanging onto their one goal lead.

If anything Dinas were even more dominant in the second half and took the game to West End from the first whistle with Alloway just failing to get on the end of a cross from the left in the first five minutes.

Despite all the pressure they couldn't convert it into goals so manager Lee Saunders rang the changes with 25 minutes of the half gone, bringing on Charlie Baister and Luke Swaffield for Alloway and King Junior Mwedzo.

Swaffield was soon in the action getting in a good cross from the right which Sam Johnson hooked goal-wards but his effort was blocked before it could trouble Harding.

All the pressure was coming from Dinas now except for the odd breakaway where Curtin had to come off his line smartly to smother the danger.

A Bruce free kick from 35 yards took everyone by surprise when he hit it hard and low on target which Harding spilled but his defence reacted quickest to clear the danger.

Another Bruce free kick bounced in the six yard box but evaded everyone and cleared the cross-bar.

However, with just two minutes remaining yet another Bruce free kick got through to Indjai to head home for a well deserved equaliser.

Dinas must have switched off as straight from the restart West End found Tortortella who made room for a good shot to beat Curtin and undo all the good work from the Dinas side and there was hardly time to restart the game with the visitors going home with all three points.

Saturday, March 14 sees Dinas travel to Llwydcoed for a 2.30pm kick off.
