ST David’s Day on March 1 was celebrated in style at Dinas Powys Tennis Club.

Gloomy weather did nothing to deter members, who turned out enthusiastically for their annual St David's Day Tournament.

Though hailstones delayed the scheduled start time, players waited patiently for the weather to clear while indulging in some traditional Welsh treats, including homemade Bara Brith and Welsh cakes.

Once fed, play commenced. Great fun was had by all and junior, senior, old, and new players all mixed in together.

After two hours of play and avoiding more showers their joint winning men were announced; Paul Arcos and Gareth Hodges, as well as the winning lady; Mary Bray. The runner up was new member Lottie Lawrence, well done.

Keeping up the Welsh theme, prizes included Welsh mugs and Celtic pens. Congratulations to all competing members, who were very brave in such horrid weather conditions, and a big thank you to all those members who provided the hot drinks and delicious treats.

They have many tennis and social events planned this year, including the ever-popular Summer Ball. Anybody interested in joining the club please visit their newly updated website on www.dinaspowystennis.org.
