WINNING the toss Sully Spartans skipper Trinath elected to field first and with the windy conditions drying the wicket and outfield for the second innings it would prove a good toss to win.
Shoiab and Morgan opened the bowling and soon had the opposition in trouble, and after 12 overs Whitchurch H were 27 for five with Morgan’s figures (six overs one maiden three for nine) coupled with Shoiab’s figures (six overs two for 10) plus an excellent catch from Sathish.
The middle order ventured much better with the total reaching 95 for eight, Haaris, Vishal and Dishant taking the wickets.
Two run outs, both direct hits on the stumps, by Sathish pegged back the opposition to 103 all out.
In fairness in the Spartans innings the wicket was now drying, the outfield much quicker and the bounce was much more even and not keeping quite so low.
Father and son combination of Chris and Rod Howe opened the batting and soon started stroking the ball around before R Howe was leg before wicket (lbw) for 16 with the partnership on 66.
A couple of wickets fell quickly before C Howe reached his 50 (including six fours and a six) and in the 24th over of the 36 over a side game the Spartans had won by six wickets.
Whitchurch H 103 all out
D Morgan three for nine
Shoaib two for10
Sully Cricket Club 104 for four
C Howe 52 not out
R Howe 16
This Sunday the Spartans take on Cefn Forest.
