NINE students from the Penarth AKAD (Association of Karate and Allied Disciplines) were awarded their new grades following their Grading in June. This involved performing basic techniques (Kihon), sparring (Kumite) and a memorised sequence of movements (Kata).

The club is very pleased to announce the successful grading of Stanwell School pupils Seren James and Ryan Allen to their 1st Dan (Cadet) black belt. These individuals have shown a huge commitment to their training over the past six years and their grades are well deserved for their efforts.

The grading also saw the successful grading of Felice Cirino, Megan Cirino, Alex Murphy, Hannah Murphy and Jamie Murphy to their 1st Kyu Brown belts making them eligible to grade to their 1st Dan black belts within the next year.

In addition to these students, Eve Murphy also graded to 6th Kyu and Seren Cirino to 8th Kyu.

This group of individuals have worked really hard to reach their current grades and are setting the high standard within the club.

The club trains on a Monday and Wednesday evening at Ysgol Pen-y-Garth’s Sports Hall (Sully Road) between 6–7pm, with higher grade sessions on Monday evenings between 7–8pm.

Stuart Creedon 5th Dan, club instructor, has 30 years of Martial Arts experience and has taught adults and children to gain discipline, confidence and respect within the clubs activities, which in-turn is applied beyond the Dojo.

"I continue to have immense satisfaction from teaching this group of individuals. Their level of commitment and attitude towards their continued development has been inspirational. The enthusiasm at the club has been infectious and there has been a noticeable improvement in fitness and ability in the adults and children across the grades. I am extremely proud of the every student and the standard they have strived to achieve in attaining their new grades" said Stuart.
