WITH a couple of matches postponed for various reasons last weekend, finals day at Dinas Powys Golf Club belonged to Simon Berni.

Last year's captain triumphed in the Babini trophy beating Martin Lloyd in a matchplay format. Considering he had to give his opponent 13 shots, this was a tremendous performance and one which the pocket battleship will let his clubmates know about for sometime.

In the Rectors Brassie Pairs tie, Steve Salah and Andrew Davies succumbed to Ian Lake and John O'Neil (his second pairs title this season.)

The Slade Cup last Saturday saw the evergreen John Bridle (nett 66) snaffle the title from Howard Bellis (handicap 15) on the back nine countback.

The 10 handicap Bridle adds this to his Second Division Championship success recently. Martin Thompson (handicap 16) was third also with a net 66.

Last Sunday as previewed in last week's edition, the Yanno James Charity Golf Day took place with a Texas Scramble organised by his son Wayne. Not surprisingly, the event was well attended and a healthy amount of funds were raised for Cancer Relief.

Colin Williams led a team including Andy Jewell and Nathan Jones to victory with a brilliant 54.2 score. They just pipped a team organised by Mike Cummings which included Jamie Hosgood recording a 54.4 nett.

The tasty finals reviewed last week will now take place in a fortnight, also the competitions season comes to a close this Saturday with the Autumn Tankard stroke play cup bringing the curtain down on an eventful season for the club.
