COGAN FC Youth team have started the season in impressive fashion. Despite the majority of players being only 16 years old, the team have played three games in 10 days and have progressed in the FAW Welsh youth cup and drawn local neighbours Barry United FC in the next round.

Cogan kicked off the campaign against a strong and talented Taffs Well youth team packed full of former professional academy and talented young players.

In a game of few chances both sides played a high tempo match full of quality and flair with slick passing from both teams dominating the first half.

In the second half Jake Emmott and Kieran Griffiths went close for the visitors while Dominic Mushemi missed a golden chance towards the end of the game.

The game finished 0-0 but clearly showed what talent is in the area with both sides shining.

Cogan 1 Real Bryntirion 2

Cogan bowed out of the South Wales Youth Cup despite dominating the game. Jake Emmott open the scoring for Cogan in the first half and further chances fell to Gabriel Paines and Ieaun Rideout in the first half.

Against the run of play Real Bryntirion equalised. Further chances fell to Cogan with the youngsters hitting the woodwork over six times.

In the dying minutes the more physical and older Real Bryntirion side scored the winner, dashing the Cogan young guns chances of progressing in the cup.

Cogan 1 Bargoed 2

Having over seven 16-year-olds playing in this fixture Cogan FC adapted well to the conditions and poor playing surface.

Bargoed a strong and physical unit took a early lead following a long ball into the box. But Cogan showed a lot of team spirit and fought back with Mustapha Yousif equalising.

Cogan took control of the game with Callum Pearce, Nathan Frost, Acki Ahmed and Kyle Campbell shining in defence. Chances fell to Dominic Mushemi and Jake Emmott but again the more aggressive and physical side came out on top.

Cogan's next game is against Pentrych before entertaining Barry United FC at home in the FAW Welsh Youth Cup.
