Dinas Ladies 5 v AFC Porth Ladies 1

AFTER a summer of hard work at training Dinas Ladies started their season with a bang on Sunday, September 4.

Playing their home matches at Jenner Park this was the opening home game of the season against a young but spirited AFC Porth Ladies team.

Dinas didn’t take long to settle as Taylor Page opened the scoring with a fine left footed strike from the left. Rachel Beare increased the lead soon after latching on to a Laura Murray through pass slotting home with a neat finish.

Losing S Saunders the home side showed their strength in depth as Jo Jones had a commanding game in the middle of the park all side Kelly Tuck. Murray thought she had scored the third after she struck a 25 yard pile driver that shock the bar following a great move involving three Dinas players.

At the break the home side were reminded to keep doing the simple things right and allow the visitors little space. Porth pulled a goal back against the run of play and looked threatening on the break.

The game was over as the home side went back to basics and played their speedy forwards through time and time again. Beare returned the favour to Murray who broke free to score the third.

Jodie Bowles added the fourth as she struck a looping shot from just inside the box. Dinas then rattled the bar as Beare hammered a header against the upright from a Gemma Crowley corner. Murray again struck the bar as she made space to fire against the wood work from 20 yards.

The fifth was coming, the ever willing Molly Chapman thought she was going to score it but hit her shot straight at the 'keeper. Laura Lewis then broke free and after the 'keeper made a fine save she carried on her run to tap in from five yards.

Player of the match was L Pattermore who along with her defenders, Ellison, Lewis, Hayley Imperato, and Stephanie Garner-Joel protected her 'keeper Lea Phillips throughout.
