HONOURS this week go to the Windsor Bowls Club PG2 team who defeated the previously unbeaten league leaders St Fagans 82-72.

It must have been a tremendous all round performance as even “Modest Mike” Fullbrook claimed to have bowled well. Fullbrook, Brenton, Thorne and Howells drew 18-18, Johnson, Mathias, Latham and D. Davies won 26-13. Meredith, Dudley, Cucciniello and Woodcock lost 16-22 and Trenchard, Hales, Rees and C. Lewis won 22-19.

The PG1 team suffered a heavy defeat away to St Fagans 53-93. The only redeeming feature was an excellent victory for Tony Holmes assisted by Matthews, Burton and Gunter. No joy either in the Munro Cup, losing 62/81 away to Barry Athletic. The only win was for Paul Gunter with Matthews, Hales and Burton.

On Thursday, Windsor took on a team from the Old Penarthians in their first ever fixture. Their Captain, Peter Morrish, managed to introduce five newcomers to the game of bowls. They were Alistair Smith, Mel Jones, Gordon Walsh, Hoss Munro and Mark Richards. They all acquitted themselves well and it will be a selection nightmare for next year’s game.

The ladies had an excellent week, winning two and drawing one of their matches. The Results were: Monday Evening League, C. Lewis, L. Thomas, D. Roper, K. Dyer won 23-8, A. Hudson, B. Dunlop, V. Flitney, D. Thomas won 18-11 and a 41-19 win over Rumney Gardens.

Wednesday Evening League, C. Lewis, C. Gunter, D. Roper, K. Dyer won 21-10, A.Hudson, L. Thomas, M. Owen, D. Thomas lost 10-21 with honours even against a strong Penylan team.

Brenda will have to bowl without her artificial aid for the return fixture as such are not permitted on the synthetic green at Cowbridge.
