YOUNG Wales snatched victory from the jaws of defeat tonight courtesy of a penalty try after the 80 minutes were up in Rovereto.
At 21-16 down, a series of attacking Wales scrums saw two of the young Azzurri front row yellow carded. A final infringement as the Wales eight drove for the line gave the referee no choice but to award the match-winning penalty try.
Until then a rejuvenated Italy seemed on course for a first win of the tournament as they edged what was an error-strewn affair.
Dragons openside Ollie Griffiths scored the first of Wales’ two tries with Leicester wing Rhys Williams bagging the other.
